From Financial Struggles to Selling Ayam Gunting with Alis Fried Chicken
Q: How did En. Aprizal get started in the ayam gunting business?
A: I left school after Form 3 due to financial difficulties. I worked at factories and construction sites before helping my father sell apam balik. Then I discovered Alis Fried Chicken. I loved the taste and saw great potential in selling ayam gunting, which led me to start this business.
Achievements: From a Small Stall to Owning a Home and a Brand
Q: What are your biggest achievements after over 10 years in this business?
A: Alhamdulillah, after 11 years in this line, we’ve accomplished a lot. One of the most joyful moments was fulfilling my dream of owning an RXZ motorcycle. We’ve also bought our own house and completed the renovations. Most importantly, we are now building our own brand, Ayam Gunting Mimi Akhma, which will launch soon in Temerloh Jaya.
Secrets to Success: Dedication and Product Consistency
Q: What principles guide your success in this business?
A: Our principle is simple — give your best in everything you do. We believe consistent effort is crucial for long-term success. This isn’t a short-term venture. We want to build customer trust and grow sustainably.
Q: What makes your ayam gunting business stand out from competitors?
A: One key factor is our commitment to using the original product from Alis Fried Chicken, which is well-loved by customers. Despite offers from other brands, we stick with Alis Fried Chicken because we trust the taste and quality. Plus, our prices are more affordable than many competitors.
Overcoming the Pandemic and Staying Committed to Family
Q: How did COVID-19 affect your business?
A: During the pandemic, we couldn’t operate at all, which completely cut off our income. It was an extremely difficult time, especially with daily expenses. We secured a permanent spot in Temerloh Jaya after the pandemic, which gave us a more stable foundation to rebuild.
Q: Besides the pandemic, what were the toughest challenges you faced?
A: One of the most memorable was selling at a night market 70 kilometers from home. It rained, and we drove an hour to get there, only to make just RM4 in sales that day. We also never took days off, as we were supporting my parents’ cancer treatments. Family responsibility has always been a strong motivator for us.
Future Plans: Expanding the Ayam Gunting Business
Q: What are your future plans for the business?
A: We aim to open our own shop in Temerloh Jaya and get a food truck so we can sell at different locations. Our dream is to expand the business and go on Umrah with our family.
